Heidelberg anicolor offset technology
Anicolor is a short zoneless inking unit which consists of fewer rollers and works with absolutely consistent volumes of ink throughout the entire print process. The even application of an exactly defined volume of ink is achieved using a format-size anilox roller (giving the technology its name) situated between the ink chamber and the inking form roller. The inking form roller, which is also format-size, provides each printing element on the plate with the precise volume of ink required at any given time. Ink that is not used is fed back into the chamber by a doctor blade, a mechanism that prevents ink from building up in the inking unit even for complicated forms with extremely low or varying ink coverage. The anilox roller is a ceramic coated, laser engraved roller capable of picking up large quantities of ink on its rough surface and transferring these as required. The Anicolor inking unit works free of ghosting, stepping and the inherent banding in solid colour areas caused by the roller configuration of the conventional offset inking unit thereby ensuring consistent quality throughout the production run.
